YACHT BUILDING
 
Socio Tours Travel&Yachting also manages yacht construction. We specialize in traditional Turkish yacht construction and control all aspects of yacht building. We work alongside some of Turkey’s most experienced yacht carpenters because for us only the best will do.
 
Gulets (Traditional yachts) are built as motor/sailor yachts. The wooden material used in yacht construction are mainly pine, mahagony, oak and white oak. The masts are made of white oak or steel. Mechanical parts are generally imported and well known brands are prefered. Interior design is built to the needs of the client for either private or commercial purposes. Depending on the yacht type, size and client's budget the construction of a yacht may take from 8 months to 24 months. 

HISTORY

Building Gulets (Traditional yachts) in Bodrum is as old as the town, going back some 2500 years. History records that Artemisia, the ruler of Caria, commanded her own naval squadron in the battle of Salamis in 480 BC, lending credence to the belief that ships were built in or near the city of Halicarnassus (ancient name of Bodrum). The seafaring traditions of the Carians and Dorians, who lived together in Halicarnassus and supplied ships to Egyptian Pharaohs, add weight to the premise that shipbuilding here is an ancient craft. Late records, from the days of the Ottoman Empire, show that the galleons for the Ottoman navy are built in Bodrum.  

 
HOW TO CONSTRUCT YOUR DREAM YACHT
 
Step 1: Firstly, decide why you want to own a yacht and for what purpose and region prefered. Please tell us your budget, the size of yacht prefered, type of yacht and minimum delivery time. (Deadline for the project)
 
Step 2: Secondly, when your email has been received we can evaluate your requests and provide you with several choices of yachts. We can advise you of your decision and recommend the best solutions.
 
Step 3: Thirdly, take time to look at and discuss the solutions we provide for you. When a final decision has been made about the yacht you prefer we can give you an approximate cost and construction time.
 
Step 4: Fourthly, When you are happy with the offer and want to continue, you can visit Bodrum or Fethiye to see the boatyard. There you can meet our yacht carpenters, examine the building materials and discuss payment options. (we can help with travel arrangements to Bodrum)
 
Step 5: Lastly, When an agreement has been made, we will make a contract and start constructing your "Dream Yacht". At every stage of the construction you will be fully informed of the progress and provided with photo and updates.
